Our
first athlete of the week for the fall season is Melanie Aldrich, a senior at
Windham High School, who is on the volleyball team. The 17-year-old is a setter
for the team. She is supported by her mom, Mary Anne and her brother Matthew.
She
looks up to Mariah Hebert, a setter at Saint Joseph’s College and Chris
Cloutier, a setter and the WHS volleyball coach.
“Melanie
brings a high level of leadership to the team. On the court she has been
aggressive and supportive. Melanie always leaves it on the court giving 100
percent in practice and matches,” said coach Cloutier, who nominated Melanie.
When
asked if it’s difficult to balance school and sports she said “sometimes,
because practice is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and games don’t start until 6 p.m. or 6:30
p.m.
Teamwork
is about “the same end goal, so why not work together and accomplish it
together?” Melanie said.
She
hopes to attend a New England college for radiology.
