Windham baseball recap: Team not missing by much - By David Field

April 27-Windham was upended at Hadlock Field by Deering 4-1. Tanner Bernier took the hill for the Eagles and Evan Millett came on in relief, but the Rams bats determined the outcome. Windham struggled at the plate and it showed in the outcome.

April 28-Windham defeats Massabesic 2-0 at home. Zack Skillings singled in two runs in the first inning and that was all the offense that was needed to secure the victory for the Eagles. Skillings also pitched for Windham and held the Mustangs to three hits. Tim Greenlaw and Cam McCartey each had two singles in the game.

April 30-Windham went down in a nail biter at Scarborough last Saturday losing to the Red Storm 2-1 in eight innings. Eagle sophomore Kyle Gilman went the distance on the mound striking out six and allowing seven hits. Tanner Bernier scored on a Mike Gilman single in the third inning to put the Eagles in the lead. Scarborough tied the game in the fifth inning on a mishandled play. In the bottom of the eighth, the Red Storm put together some quick hitting to end the game in their favor.

May 3-The Eagles fell to the undefeated Portland Bulldogs 3-2 at Windham. In the second inning, Mitch Eskilson drove in Evan Millett to give Windham the lead. Portland rallied back in the fifth inning scoring two unearned runs to take the lead. In the fifth, both teams scored runs and Portland held on for the win. Each team could only generate two hits each in the low scoring affair.

Upcoming games include Monday at Marshwood and next Thursday at Thornton Academy.
