Windham night at the Red Claws a dynamic partnership - By Stephanie Coffin

This is the sixth year that Windham Youth Basketball Association (WYBA) has collaborated with the Maine Red Claws to host Windham night. Windham youth basketball legend Tim Blackie initiated the relationship during the Red Claws first season and it has been terrific community night and fundraiser ever since. The fifth and sixth grade girls and boys travel play a prime time game on the Claws parquet prior to the game.

The Manchester School chorus sang the National anthem while players from all ages of WYBA held the living flag during the opening ceremony. WYBA players were also invited to participate in a High 5 tunnel as the Red Claw players took the court.

The Maine Red Claws donate $4 from every ticket sold to WYBA back to the organization. Additionally the WYBA was granted the opportunity to administer the 50/50 and earning $273 by selling 50/50 tickets during the game.

If you attend the next home game you will see the WYBA Red Claws relationship highlighted in the program.

The Red Claws have been a tremendous supporter of basketball in Windham helping to build the outdoor courts at Manchester School and recently allowing WYBA to host a preseason scrimmage this past November as a fundraiser. All the proceeds from the Red Claws fundraisers, team sponsors and the shoot-a-thon help keep WYBA fees some of the lowest in the region.
If you know a WYBA player you can support them and the organization by pledging them in our first annual shoot-a-thon Saturday, February 7th. For more info on Windham Youth Basketball and the shoot-a-thon, visit www.windhamyouthbasketball.com or like them on Facebook.
