Windham Swim Team meets qualifying times for State once again

Sophie Simonson
The Windham Swim Team had an incredible dual meet on Friday, January 26 against Yarmouth. Although Yarmouth won both the boys and girls meets, the Windham swimmers had many fantastic qualifying times for States competition.

On the girls’ team, Rosie Haibon qualified for States in the 200 Individual Medley and Elizabeth Lucas had a qualifying time in the 200 Freestyle.

The boys had a great meet with qualifying times achieved by Michael Ryan in the 200 Individual Medley, Evan Desmond in the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle, Dylan Palmer in the 100 Back and 100 Butterfly and Dominic Agneta in the 100 Freestyle. The relay teams were very strong and getting ready for States.

A few days later, Windham swam against Deering for the last home meet with a special recognition of the following seniors; Elizabeth Lucas, Sophie Simonson, Dominic Agneta, Dylan Palmer and Andrei Voinea. Congratulations to the seniors, they will be missed next year. In her final high school swim meet, Elizabeth Lucas qualified for the 500 Freestyle and set another qualifying time in the 200 Freestyle. Freshmen Haley Theberge qualified for the 100 Backstroke. For the boys, Junior Michael Ryan qualified for the 100 Butterfly.

The final event of the season, before states, will be the Southwestern Meet held on February 9th for the boys and February 10th for the girls at the Cape Elizabeth pool. This is a fast-paced meet with a
ton of action. It’s a great time for swimmers to qualify for States as the energy of the meet is tremendous.
