Windham falls in first round By David Field

AUGUSTA-In a touch and go game with rival Westbrook, Windham lost in the bottom of the ninth when Windham resident Robbie Hamilton hit a shot down the third base line to drive in Nathan Bean to score the winning run.

In the first, Calvin Field reached base on an error, stole second and was batted in by Joey Francoeur. Windham left the bases loaded to end the inning. Westbrook came to bat against Nate Boyle. Former team mate Robbie Hamilton hit a double to drive in three runs to give Westbrook the lead after one. Westbrook would tack on two more runs in the second to stretch the lead 5-1.

The third inning was a quiet affair. In the fourth, after Nate Boyle was hit by a pitch, Calvin Field hit a double to drive him in to give Windham another run in their favor. In the fifth, the Windham bats caught fire. Ethan Petty drove in three runs with a double to tie the game. Petty would score on Nate Boyle’s single to give Windham the edge in the middle of the game. With the fans going crazy, Windham seemed to have the game in their favor. Windham managed to control the Westbrook offense in the bottom frame to hold the lead.

However, in the sixth, Windham added a run when Joey Francoeur reached on a single and scored on an error when his brother Shawn was at bat. Westbrook answered in the bottom frame to keep the score to one shy. In the seventh, Robbie Hamilton drove a solo home run to tie the game.

The teams battled scoreless into the bottom frame of the ninth inning. Zack Bean led off with a single for Westbrook. Relief pitcher Joey Francoeur managed to get a strike out and a fly out to record two outs. Robbie Hamilton stepped to the plate and put a ball deep down the left field line to score Zach Bean on a close play at home plate to seal the game.
