The
Windham Cross Country boys and girls teams did very well at their only home
meet of the season last Friday.
“We were happy to host South Portland, Marshwood, and
Cheverus XC teams last Friday. Our home
course is known in the conference as a challenging yet rewarding course to
finish on. The boys race was loaded with
approximately 70 runners and it was a very competitive field. Our boys all ran their assignments very well
on Friday and were able to learn a lot from their race as well as take the
win. They are a fit, unified, and very
dedicated group of athletes in pursuit of some respectable goals and are
putting the efforts, time, and focus in to achieve them for WHSXC,” said coach
Jeff Riddle.
“The surprise of the meet, which may be a game changer
for the WHSXC girls season results, was junior Kiana Clark’s breakthrough
moment as she went from our ninth place finisher earlier this season to our
third place finisher at our home last Friday, and she did that with ease. The girls are being led this season by
captains Joelle Bockus, Eliza Bennett, Sierra Yost and McKenzie Pepin. Great things still to come from the girls
team as they improve weekly, pack run, and keep calm when others may panic.
Stay tuned,” said Riddle.
