In their first home game of the season, Windham’s junior varsity Lady Eagles lacrosse team hit the field against Falmouth on Monday, April 19 and Falmouth won 16-0.
Falmouth came out of the gate pretty strong, but so did Windham as the Lady Eagles pressured early on going hard after the ball. Windham’s intensity did not waver as Falmouth jumped to an early lead.
Falmouth continued their lead, but Windham did not get discouraged. They kept at it and continued to work hard. Windham had a few shots on goal in the first half. There were some new Windham players who had never played before and they fearlessly went after the ball. At the half, Falmouth led 10-0.
“This was a great game to learn where we need to be and where we can be,” said Windham JV coach Meg Flanagan. “Right now, we can just keep going up ... we’re going to come back full strength and we’ll be ready to go.”
Flanagan also said that despite the score, the Lady Eagles never gave up; Windham was in Falmouth’s faces trying to slow down the ball. Windham was really getting after it.
Windham’s intensity remained strong as they went after the ball in the second half. The Lady Eagles did slow down Falmouth in the second half and less goals were scored.
“I think with it being vacation we just need a little more practice; we’ll stick together as a team and not let this get us down,” said Windham sophomore Ali Tetrault. She added they would keep their heads up and not let this game define them. <
