Last week to pre-register for Loon Echo Trek

(Bridgton, Maine – September 9, 2013) The cool late summer weather is a perfect time to hit the road and trails to support local land conservation. The quiet and scenic trails and roads of western Maine are what the Loon Echo Trek offers participants who hike or ride for this good cause. Discounted pre-registration ends September 15, so register now for the 2013 Loon Echo Trek scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, ME.

This popular annual benefit for Loon Echo Land Trust attracts hundreds of people from across New England and beyond and offers something for everyone. Cycle through breathtaking farm fields, lakes and mountains or enjoy a hike over Pleasant Mountain. The Loon Echo Trek offers 25, 50 or 100 mile rides and a six-mile hike, which all afford some of the best scenery New England has to offer. With September’s cooler temperatures and hints of fall color, the Trek is one of Maine’s greatest events.

The six-mile hike has become so popular that an alternative hike has been added ascending the Ledges Trail and continuing on to traverse the ridge of Pleasant Mountain. After finishing, all hikers and cyclists are treated to free Allagash beer, massages by HealthSource and a BBQ meal served up from Blizzards Pub, all making the perfect way to end your Trek.

Loon Echo Land Trust protects over 5,000 acres of land in the Northern Sebago Lake region. Executive Director Carrie Walia says she looks forward to the trek every year. “It’s wonderful to share such an amazing day outside with so many people who care about land conservation. The Trek also funds a significant portion of our annual operating budget, which allows staff to identify and negotiate new land purchases such as the beloved Hacker’s Hill in Casco.”

The 2013 Loon Echo Trek platinum sponsors include Shawnee Peak Ski Area, 93.5 WMWV, 98.9 WCLZ, and Magic 104 FM. Gold sponsors include Migis Lodge, Norway Savings Bank and the Appalachian Mountain Club. Additional silver and bronze sponsors can be found on the trek website.

Register now! Discounted pre-registration ends September 15, but day-of event walk-ins are welcome. For more information, visit www.loonechotrek.org, email trek@lelt.org or call (207) 647-4352.
