Overcoming obstacles on a challenge course - By PNF

Obstacle course challenges are fun sometimes non/competitive events that a person or a group of people, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges that are in the form of obstacles. Mud and trail runs are combined and the challenges are designed to result in mental and physical collapse. Obstacles include, but are not limited to, carrying heavy objects up hill, climbing over walls, traversing bodies of water, climbing a mountain for miles, crawling under barbed wire, and jumping through fire. Many obstacles are similar to those used in military training, while others are unique to obstacle racing and are employed throughout the course to test strength, speed, endurance, dexterity and mental toughness.  Races vary in both distance and challenge level, combining trail running, road running and cross country running.

“The best part of the Tough Mudder for me is the team camaraderie and helping one another. This year I’m doing it again with “Team Blackout” but we also talked our wives into doing it with us. So it will be “Team Blackout” featuring the “Show Ponies” which will be a blast,” said Mark York.

PNF joined forces with Camp Sunshine for the Third Annual Pipeline Challenge. We are trying to earn enough proceeds from the Pipeline Challenge to send a family to Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine supports children with life threatening illnesses and their families. The camp has the distinction of being the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life-threatening illness on every member of the immediate family, the ill child, the parents and the siblings.

What is it? The pipeline challenge is a three mile run/hike that will have you trudging your way through obstacles for the first half then you will bust it straight through the second half all the way back!
When is it? Sunday April 27th at 9 a.m. (rain or shine).

Who is it for? Anyone and everyone! Get together with your friends, family or anyone you know. There is going to be three categories: Female, male, and under 18. The winner from each will receive a choice of prizes from local businesses, PNF sweatpants, punch pass and more.

Where will it be? Right behind PNF!

How much will it cost? The cost is $25 per person that day or $20 for those who pre-register for the race. You can pre-register by coming into to PNF or by calling and paying over the phone. Deadline for pre-registration is Friday, April 25th.

Here at PNF we do TOUGH Mainah Training (TMT) which is a specific series of workouts designed to torch your entire body. The exercises are designed to resemble movements that may be done in an obstacle course event. This workout will test your heart, lungs and every muscle in your body and prepare you for that first or next obstacle challenge. TMT training will guide the path to being a "TOUGH Mainah" Call today to start training to be a tough Mainah! at 892-8333, email pnf@myfairpoint.net or check out PNF on Facebook.
