What exactly is defense?
de·fense – noun- the action of defending from or resisting attack.
That is exactly what the Windham Eagles defense did
Friday night against Bangor. It seemed the further north they traveled the
warmer the temperature got, not realizing that things were just heating up. Once
the Eagles hit the field the fire started and was never put out.
Both Windham and Bangor were undefeated in Class A. However,
only one team could remain that way. The winning score was when the Eagles utilized
their defense with a 95-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter of the game.
Dylan Koza drove through Bangor’s line for a 1-yard touchdown putting Windham
on the board.
They say Windham is alone atop the Eastern Class A
standings, and although they may be the only team at the top, they are together
as a team. The Eagles choose to be introduced as a team at every game and this
shows how much they believe in being “All In”.
Windham’s big story of the night was clearly defense. The
biggest play of the game came in the fourth quarter when the Rams tailback
Johnson made a play to tie the game. Zach Davis and Tanner Laberge recognized
the situation and went on the attack, stopping Johnson from reaching his goal.
Throughout the game the Eagles played a tough defense
when it needed to, including big tackles by Zach Davis, Griffin Jacobson,
Tyrell Gullatt and Patrick Leavitt. The offense had some key plays also, Eric
Webb broke up the pass to the Rams in the end zone and quarterback Desmond
Leslie completed five of his seven passes for 61 yards.
Drive to Bangor = 1 1/2 hours. Watching football game = 2
hours. Eagles winning = priceless.
Next game is Saturday October 11 at 1 p.m. Come out and
support your Eagles and be part of the experience!
