Fit, fabulous and over 50 - By Whitney Sullivan

Did you know 50’s and 60’s are the new 30’s and 40’s?  Baby boomers are the largest percentage of the population and are healthier than ever before. They are taking charge of their health.

Sixty percent of my clients are over the age of 50.  All have individual reasons for training. Some were overweight, menopausal, being put on medicines by their doctors,  chronic back pain, falling and having limited mobility to having a mini stroke.  All very important reason for these individuals to get started exercising.

Exercise at any age is important and just because you haven’t started doesn’t mean you can’t reap the benefits. Exercise is good for the brain. It will boost your mood and self confidence and improve your sleep.  Physically it will help maintain/lose  weight. Exercise will help maintain bone density which is crucial to getting older.  It reduces the impact of illness and chronic disease. Most importantly it enhances mobility, flexibility and balance.  Fitness equals longevity.  Of course you know the facts

.  Hear what some of  our clients had to say.

Denise Cole  says she was ”tired all the time carrying the extra weight. I started by taking a couple of classes then started training.  I exceeded my expectation…..2 years and still loving it!  I’m stronger, have more energy and went down 2 sizes.  I have a better attitude and I actually get grumpy if  I can’t workout.”  I asked her, what would you say to others over 50 who are thinking of exercising?  She said “Don’t wait any longer. Just get started and you will look and feel better!  PNF is the place for everyone. We all workout at our comfort level and encouragement is given by all.  I’m  55 and feeling better and younger than when I was 45.“

Denise Varney was tired of being tired. She didn‘t have the strength  or stamina to do intense activities. A friend invited her to PNF and said PNF was not a big gym and the personal trainers will help modify and  you can go at your own speed.   “ I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep up.  I never would have done it on my own.   Thanks to my friend  getting me there.  I have so much more energy.  The loss of weight and my increase in strength is wonderful.  I take classes and all 4 of my sisters have joined me. Thank you PNF.”

Debbie Daigle has her own story.  “I started out just wanting to workout and thought that I was in pretty good condition and that my weight of 150 was the lowest I could ever get because of being over 50.  Well I was so wrong! I went from a size 12 to a size 4 and lost 30 pounds. All my life I struggled with weight and at one point hit close to 200lbs after surgical menopause.  I accepted the fact that I would never weigh less.  PNF blew that theory right out of the water! I love the trainers.  They are all very caring, supportive and knowledgeable.  I’m always challenged and I have fun at the same time. Thank you PNF and especially Whitney for helping me.”

Tammy Acker didn’t realize how de-conditioned she was.  “ I have surpassed every goal I have set for myself  and continue to be amazed at the results that can be achieved and what my body really is capable of doing!”

It is time to take back your health!  Start by walking through the door and talking to your professionals. And soon you’ll be saying  “ Who wants to be 20 when I can feel so good at 50”.
