Southwestern playoffs qualify athletes for state finals



Wrestling – The following wrestlers qualified for the Maine State meet this weekend. Samm Frank third – 106; Sebastian Foster third – 113; Jesse Malier fourth – 126; Brandon Huntington fourth – 132; Dom Cancelarich third – 138; Eric Cash second – 152.



Boys swimming – The boys took third place out of 13 school at Southwesterns on Friday night in Westbrook. Swimmer Joseph Paluso won both of his races including breaking a school record in the 500 freestyle and winning the 100 breaststroke.

Girls swimming – The girls competed at Southwesterns on Saturday. They had great swims according to assistant coach Brett Turenne.

Indoor track – The boys team finished fourth and the girls finished seventh at Southwesterns held last weekend at USM. The junior boys (freshmen and sophomores) had a huge meet according to coach Paula Pock. Eric Webb (soph.) won both the junior 55m and the 200m. Ernie Ruby (soph.) placed second in the 55m hurdles, third in the 200m and second in the junior 400m. Both boys along with Quinn McPhail and Carlos Rodriquez finished fourth in the junior 4x200 relay. In the junior shot put Thomas Sappier (soph.) finished third, Evan Coughlin (freshman) finished fourth. In the senior long jump Liam Sullivan finished fourth and Patrick Laliberte finished fifth. Laliberte also finished sixth in the senior triple jump. “Overall they had a great meet and finished with a lot of personal best,” said Pock.
 


















In the girls meet, Lauren Shoemaker placed second in the 400m. Ali Wintle won the junior high jump and place third in the triple jump. MacKenzie Joy finished second in the 600m and fourth in the 800m. The team of Shoemaker, Joy, Marcello and Cobb won the senior 4x200m. Julia Preston placed second in the junior long lump. Meghan Knights placed third in the 55m hurdles junior division.
