Windham
High School wrestling finished up its regular season at home on Saturday with a
tri-meet against Kennebunk and Westbrook. There were a lot of empty weight
classes, but the athletes were excited to get on the mat. Senior captains Eric
Cash (5-2) and Sam Frank (22-5) said that the team works well together.
“There
were a lot of growing pains with what the kids are used to with the old coach,”
said first year coach Jason Dryburgh. “The
bonding experience has been good. The kids are great.”
Some of the standout
competitors for this year have been Jesse Malier, Brandon Huntington and
Dominick Cancelarich.
“Dominick has come into
his own. He is the glue that binds the team together. He’ll make a fantastic senior
wrestler,” said Dryburgh. “The chemistry will be there next year.”
The final meets for this
season are the regionals at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham. The top four in
each weight class will advance to the state meet at Noble High School at the end
of the month.
